There is always something new to learn or to know about in education.
This page is dedicated to future educators and what the current trends are as of right now.
With technology ever changing and growing, integrating it into the classroom is vital.
Gamification is a way of turning gaming into learning. This is extremely popular with math, students solve equations to make your way through the game.
AI is another technology we are still navigating on how to integrate into the classroom. It can be an incredible tool for students to help with brainstorming, editing and personalized learning.
Most of us have heard of STEM driven learning which focuses on science, technology, engineering and math but STEAM is becoming more popular with students focusing on science, technology, engineering and math with art added to it. By adding art it can help students gain a deeper understanding of materials. (Hardiman, JohnBull, Carran, & Shelton, 2019)
Blended learning, that offers in person and virtual options of class time is another popular option that has come into play since the pandemic. This allows students who might have geographical limitations or other personal conflicts that make it difficult for a student to attend class an opportunity to learn.
Group work has become increasingly popular in the classroom. These types of activities help prepare students for real life situations where team work and communication go hand in hand with success.
Project Based Learning, also known as PBL, has become a popular method of allowing students to work together on a bigger problem that requires students to use critical thinking skills, teamwork, and creative problem solving techniques. PBL’s usually focus on a real world problem and it allows students to dive into innovative strategies for problem solving.
Brain breaks are new trend that are proving to help with academic performance. By allowing students a 5-10 minute break to move around and sort of hit the reset button on their brains they are able to better focus and retain lessons learned throughout the day. (Morin, n.d.)
Children and adolescents experience stress, trauma and other pressures in their lives just as adults do. As educators we need to recognize this and be mindful of what our students are dealing with. Mental health is a topic in schools that is finally being addressed. After the Covid pandemic, many mental health issues for school aged children were brought to light. Anxiety, depression, and bullying have all played a part in todays youth’s mental health status. As educators, we play a pivotal role in these student’s lives and recognizing the signs of mental health issues. Seeing these signs and being able to take action could help save a life. Schools offer counseling and therapy, as well personalized plans for students in need of help. (Davidson & Lutz, 2008) (Copeland, Keeler, Angold, & Costello, 2007)
